Holidays

seems like everyone has something to say. so here is my game.

I spent a good deal of the holidays enjoying the act of adding riding ballast to my physique. Not saying where I started weight-wise this season, but let's say I stepped on the scales this past Sunday and just about lost it: 198.8 lbs.

(not a real depiction of me...but sadly close)

Where the HELL did that come from? Holiday dinners? Advent Calendar chocolates? Beer(s)? Who knows. So I decided to take action so I am not starting this fight later on in the year. I normally tick in around 180, so this is a bit more than I care to weigh (I left the Army at 158lbs back in 95, so I know it is attainable, but only in good time). My target weight for Sept 09 is 175 tops. That will give me a bit of room to squeak into my new kit and hopefully be able to cruise through a race with less effort. Or refocus that effort into dropping the hammer out of the turn and being able to speed through the barriers as best I can. The funny thing - my fiancee Maria is laughing at the fact that I am addressing my weight in a blog - and she tells me I am beautiful, which I won't challenge too often. But I think it is something that has always been a part of my athletic life. I started soccer when I was 5 years old and played until I was 18. I ran cross-country. I was in an infantry unit from 91-95 and I ran 10min 35sec 2 milers for our APFTs - I smoked back then. I played rugby for 2 years. I have ridden a bike since 1970-something. So what the hell happened?

Time happened. I cannot be me from 1995 anymore, or 2000 or 1975. We all change. It happens, no matter what. I guess this is me adjusting to that fact. The fourth decade. I am glad I made it this far. I cannot wait for the next half either. So what do I do? I keep my eyes on who is winning in the masters and aim there, and keep the Nats Masters' category 70+ in mind. That shit is mine folks. I got 30 years to train. Keep working on base miles. Get the intervals rocking. I signed up for 8 weeks of VQ again, and after that I am going to get back into a program with BCS from last year. I will also watch my food choices and all this combined should help me lose a few pounds.

Plus I gotta look hot on the honeymoon, right?
